Brief
To design a tool that would give cancer patients information about pain management and provide them with the language and information necessary to discuss pain management with their doctor.
Project Summary
Two out of three people with cancer suffer from pain. There are a variety of medical and non medical cancer pain treatments available with different effectiveness, treatment burdens and side effect profiles.
 
Through an educational grant  from Janssen-Cilag Ltd, IES developed a step by step process that gathered basic lifestyle information from patients to produce a printout which they could use in discussions with their doctor.  This included a pain map and information about current and comparative medications.

The PMA was made available through the Cancerbacup web site.  Cancerbacup is a leading European cancer information charity.
